Meta‐tags have many advantages for Web indexing and also some disadvantages. There is only a framework for meta‐tags in HTML, and nothing that defines exactly what meta‐tags exist and how they should be applied (Henshaw, 1999). Undeniable meta tags are important but when they are written incorrectly they can do more harm than good. A bad setup of a meta tag, either by mistake or lack of knowledge, can considerably damage the entire visibility of the website. Their use does not guarantee that the page will be given top billing within a search engine’s list of results (Guenther, 1999). However, currently meta‐tags are the only way to add controlled language and subject indexing to Web pages during creation (Humphreys, 1999). References: Alimohammadi, D., 2003.
